bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do?
February 13th, 2006I’ve been ranting for years about the absurdity of law enforcement officials using cars that accelerate smartly only at low speeds and can’t brake or handle. Cars that are built on old technologies that even trucks and SUVs are moving away from.
If only someone made inexpensive, robust rear drive sedan with enough power for high speed travel and safety eatures like independent rear suspension and stability control…
Well now DaimlerChrysler has with the 300C/Charger/Magnum and police versions are finally being purchased by savvy decision makers.
With so many flashy foreign cars on the road, speed matters, said Leonard Lesko, the NYPD’s director of fleet services. “The car that does 110 mph doesn’t do it anymore,” Lesko said. In a recent analysis by Michigan State Police, Chargers equipped with a V-8 engine had the quickest acceleration (6.52 seconds to 60 mph) and fastest lap time (150 mph) of any police vehicle tested.
I hope these units have the suspension systems from the SRT versions but question whether the 300C and Magnum wouldn’t make more sense for police duty.
Watch for these in your rear view mirror…
